One Day is a modern and distinctly British 'memento mori' - an ancient concept that forces us to confront our mortality so we make the most of life.
Inspired by rave posters on traffic lights, and my own unwavering fear of death.

The tradition of memento mori spans centuries - from skulls in Renaissance paintings to Mexico’s Day of the Dead, these reminders have served to provoke reflection on life’s impermanence. Yet, in modern Western culture, open discussions around death remain rare - something this work seeks to change.

Rather than inducing fear, the intended effect is one of reflection, appreciation and perspective. This momentary disruption sparks contemplation, a sudden reminder that life in all its complexity, relationships, grudges and missed opportunities, will come to an end... One Day.
