Hackney Marshes, with its 69 pitches, is internationally renowned as the spiritual home of Sunday league football.
In an act of playful futility and pure, purposeless delight, Dan Berg undertakes an annual ritual: scoring a goal in every one of the 138 goals across the marshes.
This whimsical endeavour exists not for competition or glory, but simply for the sake of it — a celebration of the charm found in the gloriously unnecessary.
The event unfolds as a communal experience rather than a structured game. Participants bring their own footballs, goals are scored from the correct direction and the ritual lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
There are no nets, no goalkeepers, and no winners - just a shared embrace of silliness and the mutual love of doing something entirely for fun. It’s a gathering that connects people through laughter, camaraderie and the universal appeal of lighthearted play.
